Hello All,

I am 15 years old and have a 1979 Mini 1000 with a MG Metro 1275 engine. I have an alloy rocker cover that I would like to fit to my Mini. I have bead-blasted the rocker cover and have plans to paint it (See attached photos). I am unaware of the history of this rocker cover, but I need a oil filler cap before I fit it. I have looked on Mini Sport as well as, Mini Spares and Mini Mania, and I am not sure which cap, if any will fit. Does anyone know any history about this rocker cover and what oil filler cap will fit?

Notice how the lip is on the outside? A fuel cap almost fits. But most rocker covers have the lip/thread on the inside.

Do you have a cap you could try to fit onto it?

Like I said, a fuel cap is close, but rocker covers almost always have the thread/lip on the inside so I don't have any that are remotely close.

It looks to me like it would take something in a similar style to a Radiator Cap, only bigger and suited to the job.

That’s a nice HRG rocker cover, originally made for in-line A series engines (if it still had its original badge it would be backwards when fitted onto a Mini).

They originally had a cap made by a company called Ceandess. I think the caps are still available, but I’d need to ask some questions of a knowledgeable friend as to who makes/supplies them now.

The breather pipe doesn't look original either .. looks more like 1/2" plumbing copper!

Does anyone know if this cap will fit?

https://ceandess.onl...ck-019740010cab (of course without the dipstick)

Does anyone else have any other suggestions for a cap that will fit?

(and yes the breather is just 1/2" copper, it wasn't me though)

Thankyou everyone for your help!

That one looks to be 5.5" so probably a bit big.

What's the diameter of the neck on the rocker cover?

Maybe this?

Most likely:

but contact them with your pictures, they will advise exactly what to measure.

This might day a day late and dollar short but I have a different period finned cover (like the standard alloy ones fitted to Metros) that uses a ceandess 02139000ZKB cap...at least that us what Katie over there told me. Same cap used on Triumph motorcycles. My rocker is vented as well and came with a non-vented cap. Not sure it matters unless you block off your vent on the cover...then you will need one in the cap.
