As above

What puller are people using for removing the first motion shaft bearing?

links would be good.

would the wiper/battery terminal puller do it?

Is this the Outrigger Bearing that's half on the Shaft and the other half in the Transfer Housing ?

I have a Thin Jaw Bearing Puller (I think it's a Sykes ?), that has fixable jaws that gets in nicely.

I've had that for over 30 years now.

I've seen some guys make a puller from some 50 x 50 x 2.5 / 3.0 mm Box Section Tube, about 40 - 50 mm long.

Cut a slot in one side, so it can slide behind the Bearing, weld a nut (probably about 7/16 - 1/2") opposite, then wind a bolt in and it should remove the bearing.

I think Matt Read (?) was offering these too.

It will just do diff bearings, so a 3" / 75 mm Spread and roughly a 4" / 100 mm reach.

A far easier method is to remove the roller bearings and plastic cage, and then undo the nut with a socket. As the nut loosens it will push that bearing inner race off.

I have always balanced the box on its speedo end with the top leaning against a wall, and used two tyre leavers, slipping increasingly thicker fulcrum objects under the leavers until the bearing is off.

Made up some box with a nut welded on.  And a open 20mm hole in it. Works fine.

ps have used two levers before etc but wanted something a bit “better”.

Thought I may as well add how I removed mine, Bit of brass turned down and then milled a slot to slip behind the bearing and then used a puller on that.

i do like that.

better get an image of my "tool"  as for those of us that don't need every tool under the sun but have a drill and a welder you just need to have a think on.

ps i do want every tool but some times...

oh i will be getting a set of pullers like Mokespider showed above as sometimes they are just good to have. will be popping the diff bearing out of their races later....

it was just some old box section that was zinc coated

M10 bolt tapered to center on the shaft both holes drilled at the same time with a stepped drill bit.

Just thinking if you don’t have a welder you could still use this idea but put the nut on the other side (inside) and hold it with a spanned. It would still work.
