Hi, I am changing my rear facing radiator to front facing radiator with a heater so have the bottom radiator hose with that extra heater hose outlet coming off it. The problem is that fouls with my engine side cover plate which has the oil separator breather outlet. My question is can I just get another side cover plate without the breather or will my engine explode or start leaking oil from every gasket.
What do you guys do?

I don't understand what you mean by rear facing and front facing radiator.

You do need some sort of breather or you'll have oil seeping out of joints due to positive crankcase pressure and also any blow by gases and contaminants which evaporate out of the oil will have nowhere to go except back into the oil which would degrade it in no time.

Sounds like pictures of the problem are needed.

I assume you have a 998 block with Tappet Covers, one of which has a breather, you could instead fit a Timing Cover with a breather (see link below) which is fitted to some 1275 engines which have a solid block casting without tappet covers. In addition you could also add a breather to the flywheel housing if it has the later boss on top of the casting. This is usually blanked off on 998 engines but has a breather cannister fitted on most 1275's.

Thanks I'd rather not take my timing cover off and maybe create another oil leak.
Surely there is an after market tappet cover which has a small outlet which you can attach a breather/filter.

You could get an early one like this secondhand with a breather pipe, they were fitted to all early A-Series engines and vented down the back of the engine to the road with a length of rubber pipe in the days before emissions regulations, or you could maybe fit one of the small K&N type breather filters to the metal pipe but pointing up, that Minispares sell in link below:-.

If you are not using the mechanical fuel pump you can get a breather that replaces the replacement blanking plate ...

Ok I think I know what is going on here. Aussie Moke with a side mount rad. They had the thermostat housing point rearwards but he is changing to a newer rad where the thermostat Housing will be changed To one pointing forwards. The engine is a 998  and he has clearance issues with the KN filter on the breather on the tappet cover with the heater return connection on the bottom hose.

simple solution lose the KN and plumb it back into the carb as normal.

Yeah Nick that's kinda the problem but I don't even get to the point where I can put a k&n air cleaner. As from the photo the side tappet plate cover has a big oil separator/breather.

Thanks gaz, I do have a non working mechanical fuel pump still connected. I was thinking if it is still connected and not connected to any hoses would this act as a venting port?
