just bought a magnum door skin of a well known company on ebay, its not in its usual black coating, which does that mean its a chinese one?

 

the top part strengthener is welded on but while i think the skin was bent. So its holding a bow. Is that usual now? I mean, is all magnum stuff chinese are as bad as the 2 sets of wings i tried to fit to my car?

Believe it or not Magnum panels are UK made. The presses are worn and yes the top of the skin does bow, it is repairable though but a bit of a faff

right ok, i think if i laid it flat id have 1/2" difference in the middle or more...

 

i thought the wings defo where chinese? the presses must be well worn out by now, they whre MILES off!

The bow at the top can be dealt with by gently pressing down on the centre of it before fitting it to the door carcass. Done this a couple of times now.

They had piles of wings beside the production lines, if a wing didnt fit within half an inch it got chucked on the pile and swapped for another lol.

As mentioned above you can fix the bow easily

oh check out the build thead of mine, the magnum wings ouch! at the front there where welded up totally wrong, ther eis no uncrashed mini they would fit lol!

Noticed on their Facebook page they are using automotive grade zintec steel. I've got a few panels without the black paint and wonder if this is the reason

maybe zintec is much cheaper that it was now.

 

they did fit a lot better than i thought they would do in the end.

I've used magnum wings previously, some fitted better than Heritage, others were worse than heritage

For the advantage, i think the two sets  i have owned, they had more chance of fitting a clubman that a bellnose.

What is the quality of the new Magnum door skins ? Is there any improvement since 2020 ?
