when is a hole a hole, if its a hole would it fail, if its a hole with a bung in would it fail or pass.
remember i said its technically a fail because its down to the testers discression, one could fail it and one could pass it, its the testers ticket that is at stake.
i remember vw vans failed their test because most testers tested the suspension/steering joints with a lever to check for play and found excessive play so people replaced the joints and it still failed because there was still excessive play in the joints only to find that there is a special tool that is used to check for play in vw vans suspension/steering. so testers with out the tool use to pass them only to find out there was excessive play and it should have failed. lol

lol, what if it was one big hole about 4 inches and it was not rusted and looked like it could be a big drain hole or a small hole filled bigger, would you pass or fail then. ???

I agree with you on most of it, honestly. I read back through it and sorry to seem confrontational! lol
I was trying to remember how I dealt with things like this as a tester (8 years ago now) and I honestly can't remember. That was why I was asking what exactly it would fail on

I also agree about the comparison with the VW suspension joints. The other thing was the front struts and the play they used to always have in the top shocker mount, seen loads of people fail cars on it, replace the whole assembly, then the new one is exactly the same.

its good that we can talk about it in a grown up manner and state our opinions and respect others, we, i all make mistakes and can say when we are wrong and thats great.
only a few days ago on another forum i asked a question and could not understand the answer because i dld not have the same part as others did on their engine and kept asking them to explain about it untill some smart arse came on and said basically that i was stupid and new nothing about engines rather than try and understand that the part i had was different to others. knowledge is gained by asking and then understanding and not calling people stupid because i know the answer and they dont.
sorry to go on, but i took no offence and enjoyed the debate, its always best to ask if you want to know some thing, we all have differant experiences in life and dont all agree with others but thats no reason to take offence.

I just can't believe you've filled your floor with unnecessary holes and exposed more metal to the elements just for the sake of a few pence for some rubber bungs !!!
Adam = Student = NO CASH!

*whispers to adam* talk to your MOT man and go forth on his advice...
good idea man,
