got two holes in the passenger side of the floor. there were two little plugs there but they dissapers.
would it be a good idea to pop rivint in a plate of 3mm alu to fix it. its that dipped down bit for your heels if the car is left hand drive.
got a big plate of alu in the garage and was planning to cut that so it filled the whole dip down part of the floor.
good idea or bad idea?
cheers.

if you have a rust hole in the floor you could file it bigger and round and fit a bung and it would be ok for a mot but a original hole with out a bung and a plate pop rivitted on top would fail.

technically it could fail its mot, if the tester spotted pop rivets and a hole he can fail it as its not welded even though its a original drain hole without a bung in.

On what grounds would an MOT tester fail that?

if you welded a plate over the top of the hole the tester would look inside the car and look to see if it was welded up correctly, now you have a hole in the floor and you pop rivet a plate on top it would fail its mot,
a tester does not know every hole in every car that had a bung put in from the factory so he spots a mini with a hole in the floor with a plate rivetted on top so he fails it.
as i said because a tester does not know were every factory made hole is you could in effect have a small rust hole and file it out and put a bung in and the tester would pass the car.
this is assuming you did not put a new bung in before you pop rivitted a plate on.

Not every single bit of corrosion on a car is deemed as an MOT fail.
I still don't see why an MOT tester would fail a hole that was covered in a riveted plate, unless it was within a prescribed area (within 30cm of a structural mounting point). Many areas on many cars have holes with bolted or riveted plates covering them, they wouldn't fail.

He said if the area was rusty and corroded, and there was a plate riveted on he would fail it, as they are trying to repair the hole without welding.
BUT!!! if the hole is fine and its just a hole for water drain, he would pass it if riveted over.
