I've got a box of different A series drive shafts. (no cvs on them)

Has anyone got a list of lengths of driveshafts from different years please?

Sorry, but I don't have the actual lengths here, but some useless information.

There's several families of drive shafts that look similar but for different cars, ie. the Mini (of course!), the ADO16, Metro etc

There's also different inboard ends, depending on whether they can was fitted with Inboard CVs,or Uni-joints, and on the latter, there is 2 lengths here, depending on Rubber type Uni Joints or the steel Hardie Spicer types.

Among Minis, there was on 3 types and 2 lengths in each, depending on being for the RH or LH Sides.

Well how about giving us the lengths, and diameters of the half shafts you have there, and possibly the forum members have a better chance of supplying the information you require.

The first set are 32 and 39.5 cm
Then I've got some that are 37 and 45cm

What's the difference between early and late splines?

The pot joints have different splines to the early rubber/Hardy Spicer

I don’t know what the difference is, but they don’t swap over

I'm interested in this as I used the drive shafts that came with the 1000HL A+ series engine. They have pot joints. The passenger side shaft keeps sliding off the diff. I think that is due to the circlip being missing and will be looking at that this weekend. However I wonder if I should change the drive shafts are 1275 shafts longer or stronger than the standard ones?

The problem here will be the clip - or the lack of one. That's all that keeps them in and nothing else.

1275 and 998 shafts are the same.

So I've just got round to taking the driveshaft out. I got some new circlips for the job. However I can't see how the clips fit. I know the driveshaft has a circlip each end one under the pot joint and one on the outer CV. But the issue I have is that the pot joint is sliding off of the shaft from the differential. I can't see on any diagram where there is a clip that holds the pot joint onto the differential shaft. Before I vainly take it all apart can someone confirm that there is indeed a circlip that holds the pot joint tight to the differential oil seal and housing? I'm wondering if the drive shaft is the right length. it was with the car which was a 998 I believe and I now have a 1275 A+ engine. I believe they are the same size and length. or maybe i have this wrong do the clips hold the pot and CV joints out far enough to hold the pot joint in the right place?
