Hi, what sealants are you using to seal up the diff housing on the A+ gearbox that has no gaskets, I've used an rtv sealant from my local motor parts shop twice but it has started leaking after a couple of months.

please help as its driving me mad, i have the engine out again now and don't want to do it again for a long time!

Thanks Andy.

I use a Loctite brand one, RTV Blue.

Never had an issue. I do clean down the faces with thinners first and only apply a small bead.

It maybe that your cap might need gaskets ?

If indeed yours does need gaskets, then I'd suggest using Loctite No. 3 or Hylomar.

I found in later years, I'd say from the late 80's / early 90's, the machining of the cases was not as good as in previous years and some need correcting. Or has yours had a Cap swap at some point ?

The drg for the gearbox and diff cover have a 0.050mm tolerance

If you look at the specs, the strongest RTV is black, then orange/red and then blue etc down to white clear being less than useful.

Lightly clamp your diff housing in place and if you have the kit measure the diameter, it should be circular and with no steps between the diff cover and case, compare to bearings.

A quick check would be to fit it all together lightly clamp the cover down with the 3.8" studs only and check with a feeler gauge to see what gap/s you have.

Hi,
I use “victor reinz reinzosil” comes in a tube or power can,
It’s the only sealer I have found to work and 100% stop oil leaks, I use it on my race mini gearbox and engine, never had any leaks since using this.
It isn’t the cheapest but it drys like a proper rubber gasket not like squishy silicone.
It is what is used on modern engines that don’t have gaskets.
