New Chain = New Gears. I never even bother looking at the condition of what comes off.

As Unburnt suggested, a Duplex set up for a Road Car.

Does the duplex set up require any modification to the timing cover? Specifically on a later A+ 1275

I'm doing a 1310 rebuild on my A plus too and went for Swiftune's super lightweight simplex set. It has mutiple woodruff keyways which allows a lot of adjustment without the need for multiple keys. Comes with IWIS chain. I believe the 1275 A plus timing covers need a bit of hammering to fit a duplex. Fits in with my reduction of rotating/ reciprocating mass philosophy.

Most A+ covers have a dimple in them, looking from the front of the cover as it would be fitted on the engine, it's at about 4 O'Clock. These need leveling out with the rest of the cover. Some have said the reinforcing ring (or part of a ring) on the covers that have the Oil Separator also need to be removed, however, I haven't found I've needed to do that.

Apart from the mods to the cover, there's also 2 countersunk screws that need to be fitted in place of the 2 hex head bolts at the bottom side of the engine plate.

Just to follow up on what I decided.

I was going to go with a Simplex ISWS Chain but needed new gears as well so I ended up getting a MiniSpares EVO non-adjustable Duplex Setup.

Still need to modify my Timing Case - and flatten the breather.

Is this the dimple you’re talking about?

How much do you shave off? Looks like if you were to take too much off you’d make a hole exposing the inside.

Put a steel block under it and use a Dolly on the Inside, then belt it with a hammer ;D
