If you decide to use the metro hubs you will also need the following information.....

(2. Metro Steering Arms - to help correct the Geometry)

Throw the metro arms out and fit Mini arms otherwise you will be all over the road

And this one ......

(5. Ball Joints (Slightly confused here, do I need this special Metro Ball Joint  If so do I need them on the Top and Bottom of the Hub)

Use GSJ268

and this one....

(8.)

Use one of these.....  http://www.minispare...|Back to search

Thank you so much - just to clarify, ref the ball joint GSJ268, do I need use two of these on each hub? And are you supporting the fact that Metro Hubs will work on a Mini (with 10 Inch Wheels?

The king pin angle is different and that is not adjustable. Yes you can attach them to the car but I never would. We even had Mini ones on a class winning Metro.

Another thing to remember is the metro used ball bearing wheel bearings as the hub and wheel were designed to reduce the bearing load. The wheels had an ET of about 35. If you plan on running Mini wheels then you will need to change the bearings either as you overhaul the hubs or shortly after.

You need 2 per side

I have used Metro hubs on a Mini and found them to be ok, but not really something I would recommend.  They work best with Rose jointed bottom arms and tie bars with the corrected angles for these items as against the rubber type bushes and the negative camber etc needed for these to work.

Not all Minis had taper front bearings fitted from the factory.  but certainly decent tapers are best.

Correct the drum braked minis did not. But the disc braked one (wider track) did as standard.

Sorry saying they work best with rose joints is very misleading as a Mini set up also works best with rose joints.

and If the metro ones were so much better on a Mini don’t you think all the racers would be using them?

again they can be made to fit and can be used. Would I wish them on anyone? Nope.

No they didn't, the 1984 disc braked minis onwards didn't at least up to 1990 anyway...

Try reading what I actually wrote... 1~) I said I didn't recomend them, 2) this clearly means that mini hubs will work best, however 3) metro hubs will NOT work with none adjustable and therefore rose jointed will be the best for them...

Rose joints just replace the ends of the bottom arms so you dont have any bushes. This removes any play you might have in the bush no matter if they are standard or poly etc. Like Nick is saying the kingpin angle is different and this can't be changed. Things can be changed to help the issue but it cant be fully iradicated.

Using the same size and offset wheels as the donor vehicle, this should correct the scrub radius I believe, but obviously ackerman and bump steer may still be an issue. This is what I'm planning on my project using MG TF 304mm discs, I'll run 195/45R16 tyres and wheels with similar/same offset.

PS. Really must start a build thread on here.

Thats correct, a rose jont would reduce any movement, of course there will always be a certain amount of flex, but changing to rose joints means that the negative effects of fitting metro hubs are reduced, but I add, NOT entirely eliminated....  see above where I stated I don't recommend them ....

It's Engineering, most things in Engineering are a compromise,

Rose joints can and do get used on bottom arms but also tie bars as well.
