Also has been available as a book and DVD....
Crossroads Alice DVD.
This is the official BMC/Castrol film of the trek across Australia, from east to west, then up to Darwin and down to Pt Augusta (hence Crossroads Alice) and back to Sydney, for the testing of a new oil by Castrol in the summer of 1965. The trek was undertaken in a Morris Mini De Luxe and an Austin 1800 by Evan Green, "Gelignite" Jack Murray, BMC mechanical guru Alan Kemp and photographer Scott Polkinghorne. They were actually the first people ever to cross the continent from coast to coast (east to west or west to east) through the centre. This is a really enjoyable film with some terrific period footage - including rain at Ayers Rock (Uluru), which temporarily turned the rock into Australia's highest water falls. The DVD also includes another BMC publicity film, It's A Long Way To Catch A Plane - about a race around Australia between a Cessna light aeroplane and a Morris 1100S, driven by Evan Green and "Gelignite" Jack.
