What Type Of Needle For My Su Carb

Best Answer postve , 07 February 2020 - 08:31 PM

Thx retro but going to experiment with a few to draw my own conclusions.

Retroman was simply telling you how it is, not making any suggestions
AAA is no use to you whatsoever in an HIF 44 unless you put a .090" jet in it and that's just a mine field.

Humm this was a while ago and yes figured that out through painful needle changes - was fun though. Ended up with a BCE after going through BDK, BDL, etc etc - I appreciate feedback but reserve the right to screw it up on my own - lol

Thx Pigeonto Go to the full post

Thx again and I chatted with Keith last week, he mentioned BDL would be a good start but may be a little lean to the top -

On Minty I noticed the BFY basically has the identical profile as BDL, unless I mis read the chart?

I have read a few posts and based on my engine specs a BCE needle might do the trick - anyone used a similar needle?

Retroman if you look at this I'd be interested in your opinion. attached picture of a plug. Just been for a run including a bit of dual carriageway. and a couple of 6500rpm bursts. Goes like a train. You know which cam I have. The 44 is running a BDK. I think the plug is maybe a tad lean?? But looks pretty good. You gave me a BBC needle is that richer. Bare in mind most of my running is fast back lane not dual carriageway. Could swap it and see I suppose.

Thoughts appreciated.

Mad, I ran my 44 with BFY/BDL and BDK and all I found a bit lean so used the BCE and was basically best bet without AFR and rolling road. One thing I found over here is I run 91 octane - no ethanol - shell - as 94 has a small percentage and can trick you when it hesitated under hard acceleration. Tried multiple times and 91 is what I use period - interested if others have the same issue or is this just smoke and mirrors?

Check my engine specs further up as curious what yours is?

As an update I fitted the new head plus added 1.4.1 rockers and last check on accelerometer was hitting 85-90hp and plenty of torque

I'm not Retroman, but that plug looks perfect to me.

yeah I'm pretty happy with the plugs and that was after a high speed blast. I'm pretty sure the BBC needle is richer so it may be worth a switch over and a drive presumably I'll have to change the base settings like idle etc. Obviously a rolling road is the way forward and I have one locally. but its expensive for a car I'm driving on the road only.

So is burning out the exhaust valves because the fuel mix is too lean ... :-) I know plenty of people with road cars set up on a rolling road and are happier for it!

fair point. I am keeping a close eye on the plug colour as I run the car in. I've only done 900 miles.

Retroman was simply telling you how it is, not making any suggestions

AAA is no use to you whatsoever in an HIF 44 unless you put a .090" jet in it and that's just a mine field.
