Will the Mk1 clamp and boss assembly fit okay in a Mk3-on car enabling the spare wheel to be clamped down more securely? I'm thinking it could simply be bolted to the boot floor?

I've rectified the rust caused by the spare wheel moving around and would prefer not to do it again too soon, it's frustrating that every Mini I've had has had exactly the same problem. Spare is a standard 12 x 4.5" wheel with 145 tyre.

Don't think there is any reason the Mk1 bracket won't fit your Mk3 onwards boot floor if you buy one:-

it is normally welded in position but I am sure suitable screws, rivets or bolts could be used instead. I believe it was deleted on later Minis as a cost reduction as it is not essential.....

Don't see why not. It might just have been deleted as cost cutting. I'm sure you could dream up something else, though if you go that route bonding it in might well be a better and easier option. You could also add a few rubber/plastic pads to lift the tyre clear for ventilation.

I'm planning to add some sound deadening mat which will help eliminate the paint abrasion, I hadn't considered air flow and that could be a lot to do with the rusting that commonly occurs rather than just leaving shiny bare metal.

Mine's a '98 car and the floor already has ribs where there would be a wheel clamp, I'll likely try bonding one in place.

This is a great idea! I'll get one with my next Minispares order I think!
