interesting that the gearbox was painted

Yes. They painted them brown, but not all engines.

Hi Gaspen! You're doing a great job. I was surprised that you painted the Carter the same color as the engine. Originally this came like this? Greetings

When I bought the car in 2018 most of the paint was removed/worn from the engine. I believe that it was the original paint from 1975. But there were small signs of paint everywhere : gearbox, clutch housing and so on. So i decided to repaint to RAL8003 as it is the closest shade to the original. The picture I've attached is from an advertisement that I found on the web. The sticker on the rocker cover shows "British Leyland Authi"

I finished the gearbox/diff assembly. Everything is torqued, endfloats and pre-loads are set.

The crank has to machined for the first undersize.

It's probably too late to respond but....

1. I've seen examples of painted Authi gearboxes & clutch covers before. In the 1960s BMC & BMH painted their gearboxes & clutch covers.

In the 1970s BLMC were trying to keep the cost down on the Mini in both the British & Spanish markets & only painted the engine. Perhaps only the Authi Export models had painted gearboxes & clutch covers.

2. In many pictures RAL 8003 (clay brown) looks very close to the original -but in your photos it looks far too yellow.

Is it worth posting on foromini to find out where they buy their engine paint -it will be the same colour, they just need to buy less of it than you do.

In real life the color is more brownish that on the pictures. I think it is because of the flashlight of the camera. I checked the color with a RAL card before I bought the spray.

The crankshaft main's has to be machined for the 1st undersize because I found something that I did not want to see : the middle main journal had abnormal wear.

After that I carry the crank-flywheel-clutch assembly for balancing. Yesterday I put together the gearbox and engine. All clearence's and endfloat's were set as in the manual.

Funnily enough Innocentis also had the engine and gearbox painted. Albeit black rather than brown.

Good evening

After I spent the last months with cutting, griding, shaping, patching, welding, put together, measuring, test fitting, dismantling over and over, from some point of view it looks a like a Mini. Next job is to re-skin the right hand door, weld the right wing int place, and build up the front-end.

I choosed some random picture from the 400 I've made  :proud:
