so today i was having a brew and reading through the old 60s and 70s race mini thread and ime a bit hooked i have to be honest  the look is so cool  the big bonnet bulges or cutouts the wide arches and stripped out interior  and that smooth look with no bumpers ect ime kind of made up my mind on the look i want for my  own project up until now it was more a case of getting itto be a solid shell but now i have something to aim for in terms of the final look  and so with that  being said so how do i go about acheiving that look i have a early eighties shell that is in need of some serious welding anyway

I thought that the second one was more suitable for that. It seems like it has a sign saying that it already "ate" something....  O_O

I think not having a chrome grille or bumpers and the front and rear bumper mounting seams removed goes a long way to achieving the 1970's Mini racer look. This look disappeared in the 1980's when most Mini race formula rules (like Mini 7 & Miglia) required standard factory bumpers and grille to be fitted, this was driven by BL Motorsport sponsorship of Mini 7 because they wanted the race Minis to look more like the Minis that were on sale in their showrooms in order to boost sales to the public.

A couple of pics of my older brothers 1970's race Mini 850 Free Formula Special Saloon below, I took these photos in the Brands Hatch paddock back in 1974.
