So having dry fit the suspension I'm drawn back to the wheels situation I have with the car. From the photos you can see they dont sit well and as mentioned from someone earlier in the thread they will make for strange handling. current size is 13 x 7 -7 ET but will need to find a more suitable set. Can anyone recommend what size I could run that will sit better and bring my wheel width inside the arches and not foul on the suspension ? I'm hopefully runnin miglia arches and don't want to go any wider.

Hello, I believe that set up on your front subframe was by a company called SAE, I would start by returning the Metro/MGF lower wishbone and front hubs back to the frame. I think the SAE setup used mini upper arms as well but are a direct swap out to the Metro/MGF subframe, so it should be a nut and bolt fit to reinstall the metro/MGF front suspension parts, you would need to probably do some minor fabrication welding to get coil overs or whatever to support the front suspension.

 

The Metro/MGF suspension also has the added benefit of bringing the wheels inboard by 20 / 25mm per side. so will remove about 40 / 50mm from the track width

Just looking at where you are, I'm close to Durham, I probably have most if not all of the front suspension/hubs/brakes, you would need to return your front suspension to original, I think most parts could be used after refreshing them, your welcome to them if practical, or buy a complete front mgf subframe for cheap locally, or better still a metro frame.

 

Forget about the rear until the front is completely set

Thanks for this ! I was looking at another thread on here where he used the watsons frame and then when he sold it to a new owner who changed it to metro arms hubs etc which brought the wheel width in. Doing this I would lose the use of my Willwood 4 pots thought ? This is why theres been so much delay with the build .... The subframe !!. I still have the option of KJB frame which would keep all my mini components and handle more like a mini should ?

You can still use the wilwood 4 pots just need a different mount made up, could still use the disc brakes probably just need to change the bell. up to you depends what you are trying to achieve

I checked this option yesterday, unfortunately the subframe has been modified in a way that the bolt holes for the metro wishbones have been welded over and would require a lot more fabfrication to change back. I'm going to use the wait and see approach and use what I have to get the car running with all the doors etc back on as I think my biggest challenge will be the wiring. Once I've completed this I might order the KJB frame and convert everything back knowing the car acutally runs which will save me money for now.
