Just got a second-hand gearbox ready to swap, question is as it is out of the car and ready for a good clean do I?.....

 

spend hours with ; gunk and de-greaser and rolls of kitchen roll and rags            OR

 

do i just blast it with a pressure washer and take 10 mins max to make it all clean again????????

to be honest i would be stripping it and checking stuff for wear.

And when it's stripped down get it vapour blasted - it'll come up like new.

 Really haven't got a clue on ..............Vapour  blasting ?????? oooopsss just googled it ...wow looks good however trying to do this project on a limited budget and trying to keep it in house, this looks expensive .

I think having the box and diff castings done was about £60 - I know you're not really going to see it once it's in the car but your MOT guy will appreciate it!

must admit for 60 notes does seem expensive but saves me a whole lotta work and time and dirty hands but does look amazing tho.........tempted..will ring around locally thanks

I second getting it vapor balsted and do a full reabuild. You don't want to have to take it out again. A rebuild kit is about £350 odd from Guessworks andI did mine myself

 

You need to have everything really clean during the rebuild. I got all the alloy parts on my car cleaned for about £120. Well worth it.
