Does anyone have the answer on which way round this valve seat goes ?

I can see the argument for both but I'd really appreciate confirmation - I've marked them up.

I reckon it's purple which goes in first for what it's worth

Many thanks

One end must have a taper that matches the shuttle valve seat.

Thanks, yes that's my thinking - the "green" side has the taper so the purple must be pressed into the engine

Just had a look at my spare block and it appears to be fitted the other way around - green end in first with shuttle seat mating with purple end.
Vizard book would also appear to suggest this but only shows a side view.

That's bizarre... That doesn't make any sense does it. Interesting that he's using a ball in the illustration, I wonder if if it's different for ball/shuttle....
Decisions, decisions - thanks for looking though

Provide clarity as I can't see which end is what colour !

Looking at Vizard and Moke's post then it looks like green should be out then.....Why can't they just be the same !!! (I'm using a shuttle and not a ball by the way)

Thanks to you both - much appreciated

I actually suspect the photo in Vizzard's book has the seat back to front.

Although just looking at it now the tapered (green) bit of the seat doesn't fit at all well with the shuttle - you'd say that the sharper ( purple) end would be the better fit ( which is what Vizard is showing)....

Why can't both ends be the same....?!

Now I look at your pics again, I can't tell which colour is on which end.

As per the diagrams and photo here;-

The purple end has a step inside so the thing can be extracted from the block so green end out?

Agree now. Unfortunately I just put my PRV and spring back in and don't really want to undo it because of the nice new copper washer ;D

But when it was open I put my little pinky finger in the hole and it definitely felt like the shaped orifice in the photo above :D

May I suggest that someone puts a tap down one, inserts a bolt and pulls one out.

We seem to have a consensus...! I agree that the purple is definitely the end which faces outwards. It just has to be.
Thanks to everyone - its very reassuring
