Hi can anyone help me I brought a 29 yr old mini mayfair last November the shell is virtually rust free, the only problem was it had a broken piston. My plan is to put R1 engine in it, I have sourced a pro motive kit with R1 engine already installed.

Now I am looking at all the necessary items to make it happen .

Can anyone recommend the best brake set up that I can use.

Also is a Barnet Clutch the way to go?

I'm a novice mechanic but I have a great partner who is teaching me , I say that the only way to learn is to get your hands dirty.

Hope someone can give me some advice no matter how small

Thanks

What wheels do you want to run and what will you be using the car for?

In many ways it's likely to be less demanding on the brakes.

7.5inch discs should do you.

Engine power doesn't make it any harder to stop, it just means you can from one place you need to slow to the next quicker if you really try. Over brake your car and it can actually be harder to stop in normal use because the linings can't get up to working temperature. You can always swap pads for a track day.

Barnett Clutch spring conversion yes... the spring rates that they give in the kit, 40lbs are not enough. Get their 58lb springs, much better from the get go. I have talked to them about even stronger springs for the next go around. I run their full clutch pack also.
