Folks, I am looking for inspiration. Has anybody made some nice looking brackets to fit MX5 MK1 seats in to a Mini. Anybody got any links or pictures of some.
I am avoiding the path of a load of agricultural box section or lumps of angle iron on the floor pan. Cheers. Mark

I used the original subframes from the mx5. Had some nuts and some extra metal welded onto the crossmember, and some extra strengthening on the floor and bolted it through. Really nice seats and sat nice and low. I'd have them now if I didn't have buckets

Hey Mark !

Nice to see you over here mate.

I can't offer much in the way of fitting them in to a Mini, but should be fairly easy.

I do fit the MX5 NA Seats in our Mokes, using the original runners with some small modifications to them.

They are about the most comfortable seat I have anywhere, but I know that seats are somewhat 'individual' as well.

I used the mx5 rails too. Some box section feet st the back and thick plate at the front to attach it to the standard pivot points. To lock it down it’s pretty unsophisticated but it works I have a large dead bolt.

I didn’t want it to be permanent so I can put the standard seats back easy

Here's a link to pictures of a set of Miata frames I duplicated for the seats I put in my 84 Mini.  They're some additional pieces added to the Miata frames.

I fitted a bench seat  ( I think it was from an A35 van ),  into my Mini pick-up.

Re positioning the handbrake took a bit of sorting.

I will leave to your imagination, changing a "magic wand" down into 2nd when my girlfriend was sat in the middle.

Will need a mechanism to hold it down though when fitted for the MOT.

Just weld some nuts to the cross member, then bolt the mx5 runners to them and directly through the floor at the back. Cants the seat back so you sit right at the back of it, it's really comfy!

Would have been a folding rear A35 van/countryman seat then ....

I have mk1 mx5 seats in my mini. They were there when I bought it but wouldn’t change them, super comfy and look cool. The speakers in the headrests are hooked up as well but not the best given my exhaust is that loud. If you need pictures of the frame I can take photos when I am next out. They use the mini hinges so they tilt.

If you need any more photos or better photos let me know.

EDIT: Looks like some photos have appeared upside down. Don’t know why and not sure how to sort that. Apologies.

They look awesome. If someone made a bracket and sold them on eBay, they'd make some nice money.

Lots of mk2 mx5s are being scrapped (including ours soon...)

You can see the where the nuts were welded onto the crossmember and the extra strengthening plates on the floor. I've not got any photos of the actual seat mounted unfortunately but I essentially just used the standard mx5 frames and bent the rear of them slightly to sit on the floor properly.
