3 years and nine months after getting the car back, it's finally back on its wheels again !!

it would be nice if they weren't all pointing in different directions, but i guess you can't have everything  ;D

Wheely good progress..

Bet you are tired now..

No need to deflate you your progress is great.

i'm really pleased how they look on the car; gives it a more utility vehicle look than if i'd left them in silver, and in practical terms won't show up the dirt so much  ;D

a few more jobs ticked off the list, and an extra one dealt with for good measure.

First up; fire extiguisher fitted. hopefully won't ever need to use it.

xRBeRYH.jpg

Dash liners fitted - apart from the drivers door pocket trim, and sun visors, that's the interior done

then managed to distract myself with another bracket creation job

DxYfDdF.jpg

fblwcg8.jpg

it's only 3" higher than the original one, but makes a surprisingly big difference when working in the engine bay

and finished off by fitting the front number plate, grille, and after a good clean, the headlight surrounds.  just need to find the screws to fix them in place...

Hopefully not too long, but does depend on when I can get it booked in for suspension and engine setup...

more bracketry today; modifying the steering wheel boss to work the indicator self-cancelling ring

the usual 2mm stainless plate after a few hours of cutting and filing

after some bending and a bit more filing, it's job done

Got the car booked in with LynxAE to do the suspension setup and engine map;  the downside is that due to a combination of factors, that's not going to happen 'til the end of july.

in the meantime; and something i should really have done when the car came back from the body shop, i thought i'd better check the rear subframe geometry.

Diagonals came out within a couple of millimeters of each other, and with the aid of a plumbline, a marker stick to do the arcs off each corner, and a laser level i could plot the centre line of the rear subframe down the length of the car, and see how far off the centreline of the front subframe it was

3mm over 217cm, which according to my maths is naff all.

Assuming i haven't made a fundamental mistake in marking everything out and plotting the centreline, that's a good starting point, and a testament to Ben's skills when he replaced the floor.

I've also got round to putting an infill into the air duct to cover the hole i had to cut to clear the clutch cover casting.  Can't imagine it'll do much to improve airflow, but should at least keep the worst of the rain/bugs/grit from getting through

the other job that needs sorting is the tonneau.  the old one no longer fits as the fasteners are in slightly different positions, but i've managed to re-position most the eyelets so it fits reasonably well which means i can send it off to be used as a pattern for a replacement

thanks

started off as just a means of installing some additional gauges (vacuum, tacho & AFR) and ended up being a convenient housing for most of the control relays I added (horn select, AFR, lights on buzzer, fuel pump enable&prime and DRL)

Still needs a cowling making to tidy it up, but from the drivers seat looks fine

After giving the car a clean for the first time I actually drove the car; forwards and backwards

it was only a few yards out of the garage to take some photos in the sunshine, but that's the first time i've driven that car since 2009 !

Cheers !!

Assuming the engine survives the rolling road session I should be out and about in it from August; hopefully get a couple of months of decent weather to enjoy it
