Looks great.

Can I ask what tool you used to get the curved clutch/brake lines such a tight radius ?

Thanks

..one of these

..to be clear, that is a different tool.  the one pictured is for 1/8", 3/16" and 1/4" pipe, the one you linked is for 6, 8 or 10mm pipe  (1/4", 5/16", 3/8" equivalent), so not ideal when working with 3/16" brake/clutch lines

Thanks for replies...

I've used the 'socket method'. Bending around socket in vice. Works a treat.

Thanks.

Finally managed to find someone to weld up the exhaust sensor boss, which meant i could refit the exhaust.   one step closer to being able to (hopefully!) get the engine running....

much better now

having got the exhaust sorted out i was ready to have a go at firing the engine up, so having spun it over to make sure it was making oil pressure, it was time to set the base offset timing on the ignition system

plugged it in, fired it up, and...nothing.  no spark and no lights indicating it was firing the coil pack, so sent it back for testing

in the meantime, i finally got round to installing a coolant drain by replacing the lower half of the radiator hose with the top half of another

5EyeXEc.jpg

Motorsport-Electronics tested NoDiz unit and were able to replicate the fault on the test bench so sent a replacement out, so i could finally try and start the motor

Happily, after a few tries, it sprung to life, and sprang a few leaks too !

However, as you will see from the picture below, it's pretty clear that something is not quite right with the setup

ncuDUNd.jpg

AFR gauge is showing 14-15, which suggests the mixture is in the right ballpark, which leaves timing as the probable cause;  whether it's a mistake on the base offset, or an issue with the process i followed when timing the cam in, they'll both need a bit more investigating...

Always check spark timing before starting the engine is a good call. After setting my car on fire once it has become ingrained.Your engine bay looks very nice.Steve..

Clever solution for coolant draining! I have been contemplating about this as well, but I might use your solution ;-).

This is how I did my drain tap.

it is a plastic radiator, I bonded another piece of plastic to the bottom tank, the drilled and tapped it and fitted the drain tap.

..checked the pulley timing mark - all good

3jkkvNS.jpg

..checked the cam timing - intake valve full lift at 103.5 degrees, so that's fine...

cPM8ziD.jpg

all of which means, i think, that it's got to be the timing that's out.  I've put together a few alternate map files using figures from other ignition systems and will try them out to see if i can find something that solves the very high exhaust temps i'm seeing

Have you verified the idle timing with a timing light to make sure the offset is OK?

And have you got the MAP sensor hooked up to the manifold side of the throttle or the intake side of the throttle blade? The reading at idle should be around 20in/Hg

Base offset still needs to be re-checked. After the initial setup the timing light was showing 10 degrees advance during cranking which was correct for the default map.

MAP sensor is connected to manifold, but to rule that out as a factor, and as I'm not running under load anyway at this stage I've disabled the load mapping function.

Hopefully get a bit more time in the garage this weekend to have another crack at it.

No - according to the AEM 30-4110 documentation it's not required
