so will need to look at what can be done to tone them down
Might sound daft, but colour the end in with a black Sharpie
Thanks Graeme - I tried a blue one which didn't make much difference. Didn't think to use black...

Might need more than one ‘coat’ too.
it worked for me in my car - the blue ones are particularly bright.

i tried a black sharpie, but that still didn't dim it down enough for my liking,so.....
sanded back the ends of the LEDs on the toggles, and put a dab of black paint on with a cotton bud
...now much better

still wasn't entirely happy at how bright the lights were, so had another go final attempt at cutting down the brightness of the LED's
this time, completely covered the LED's with black paint and then scraped away a small section in the middle. happy with that now; enough to be visible in daylight but not overly bright at night
abandoned any idea of engine turning the cluster facia, and etch primed it ready for paint
Piston installer tool arrived this week, and re-fitted the cleaned up pistons so i could have another go at measuring the crown to deck heights - when i measured them previously i was getting 20 thou variation between the 4 cylinders, now they're all within 4 thou which i'm happy with. still seeing about 5 thou difference across each piston, which isn't ideal, but will have to do. interestingly, the difference is in the same plane for all the piston/conrod assemblies.
anyway, now i've got some measurements i'm comfortable with, i can strip the block down again and send away for a very light hone before fitting new piston rings

You could also turn the switch over so they’re pointing down when on - will stop the bright light shining up at you
..but that would have been too easy

Painted the facia plate and supports, re-assembled and fitted it. Happy with that

Looks fantastic.

finished off the wiring on the instrument cluster
..and then bench tested it to make sure it all works as expected
testing revealed a couple of issues that need to be addressed; one fairly trivial that a diode will rectify (!), and the other that some of the LED's i've used are really bright; especially the blue one in the toggle switch, so will need to look at what can be done to tone them down
That looks great.

Lots of thought gone in to this well done

Even better turn them sideways and dazzle the passenger
I've fitted the same switches and boy are they bright, might pinch you idea with the paint.

despite being pleased with how the instrument panel had come out, the AFR gauge stood out as the surround was quite different from the other gauges, so after a bit of work, managed to get a smiths chrome surround on it instead. now looks much better

Totally agree. That looks much better now.
