To the untrained eye this might look like a well-kept classic Mini estate, but lurking underneath is a highly-tuned race car that's due to hit the track for the first time this month. The 1964 Austin Mini Countryman - not a Traveller - has been saved from the scrapheap, thanks to one enthusiast who has turned it into the ideal classic competition car:-

Now I like that!  The leather strap on the rear doors is a nice touch.

I saw this on Burlen and Swiftune's facebook pages. Fantastic looking car, and a great idea. I'd love an old countryman or mini traveller (or even an Innocenti Mini-T) but they are quite rare over here.

I can’t wait to go to the Members Meeting at Goodwood tomorrow. They have 60 minis racing. They are split into 2 separate races of 30. Going to be epic

Really looking forward to seeing the App K Countryman on the track. I've been following it's build with interest and I think it's looking pretty competitive on any testing it has done. The race on Sunday will be very interesting. Fingers crossed it doesn't get pranged first time out in anger.

Here are a few mini shots that I took yesterday. The racing was so good. Nick Padmore and Nick Swift were nose to tail all race. They swapped the lead 8 or 9 times and never once hit each other (second from last photo). Bill Sollis stuffed it in the tyre barrier and few others were banging door handles. Chris Harris was driving the 44 mini in the last photo below.
The Members Meeting is on iTV 4 at 6.15pm today

I was a little surprised that a man of his talent who knows minis like the back of his hand, could make a mistake like he did. Simply carried too much speed into St Mary’s, got on the grass and then game over...

But I still think he is a top bloke on all things minis
