Stupid question maybe but why would you have them ground over having them turned down a few thou on a lathe?

 

A much better finish.

 

 

They are very hard. They can be turned, but the surface finish would chew out the bushes that they run in in short time.

 

Also, for removing 1 - 2 thousands, which is only 0.5 - 1 thou off the surface of the radius, a grinder is way more accurate.

Thanks fellas. I thought it might be due to the hardness, didn't think the surface finish would be too course either. I'll have to measure up my new pot joints and hope I don't have to seek out a grinder.
