I'm quoting my own post to answer you - to me, its all down to the cut-out size of the speaker hole in the car. Then doing your research on your proposed speakers. The speakers I quote (and still use) are no longer available I don't think, but they were quoted as 6". I like them because the car looks original unless you look closely.
I have JL Audio JL TR600-Cxi fitted to mine, they are screwed down tight, using the original holes. They also use the original speaker wiring, and I have a new Sony Bluetooth head unit - to my ears, it all sounds superb - until the car starts moving! The cutout required for these speakers is 12.7cm... I measured the hole in the shelf on the car at a fraction under 13cm so thats pretty darn close.I deliberately got ones that weren't the absolute maximum size for the hole, to make it easier to fit. When shopping around, use the cut-out size for guidance, rather than just the size the speaker says it is.

I would like the new ones to remain as stock looking as possible.
Those JL Audio ones recommended above, look great, as they only have a small badge on the grille, however they are discontinued so I wondered if anyone has any recommendations for new ones or perhaps second hand ones?

After some googling I'm thinking of following this solution, seems like a good idea!

If seems only Halfords sell the model number quoted in the video for £30.
However the exact same spec speakers are available everywhere cheaper, under a slightly different model number

All sorted. Much more faff than intended.
Basically, the old speakers were knackered and I only had a pair of much smaller JVC units to install. So I butchered the originals so I just ended up with the chassis ring, made a 5mm MDF spacer to accommodate the smaller JVCs and the original covers. The now look original but contain reasonably OK speakers. There’s also a small under seat subwoofer so the sound is OK
cheers
