Just bought a used 3 non elongated hole one off ebay.
It doesn’t fit the 998 flywheel I’m trying to get off.
Do classic mini flywheels have different PCD flywheel puller holes ?

nope all the same. other than the difference between Verto and preverto. you most likely have the wrong one for the flywheel. note threads are fifferent. and the Auto has a 3rd PCD

Or the laser one from halfords should do the job  - no disrespect to Guessworks's beastie which is apparently excellent and nigh on invincible, but for a singular job it'll sort you out.....just make sure after taking out the crank washer you put the relevant bolts in perfectly evenly or else your're asking for trouble...... crank up the pressure bolt tight, then some more, then some more, wait a bit, and then some more...... it'll come off - mind your feet!!

The "taking out the crank washer" and "wait a bit" is important. Don't go monstering it up tight with a scaffold pole. You'll risk rubber ducking it. A 3' breaker should do it.

Some come off very easily, whilst others are a real b****r.

It once took me almost a week to get an MPI flywheel off and I had to use my huge puller plus 'Arctic Freeze' and a big hammer. Eventually it released.

Why is that, do you think? Poor tolerances from the factory? Assuming it's not because someone has been there before.

From what I've noticed, it seems to be the Verto types that are the worst for this and looking at the aftermath, it appears they were either not fitted up tight enough in the first place and / or their design lends them to cause fretting on the tail of the crank.

i have only ever removed one verto fly assy and that was with the Bstad and once the ball bearing had made its mark in the end of the drive bolt it came off quite easily

pre verto ones i have pulled many many of them most off high revving race engines and never had issues. my thoughts about the verto is that the mass is further away from the taper so anything being out has a greater effect?

The Minispares one is good, very sturdy. I bought one as I will have to rebuild a lot. It took a week to get the one off the 1098 I have!

I found the application of heat and freeze spray played a big role in removing the flywheel off my clubby. That one was pretty much welded on and it was pre verto. Much cursing, big hammers and drifts, one knackered puller and it fell off after the application of heat and cold.

I think if i was done mini engines on a regular basis then Guessworks monster would be the ideal tool.
