Hi,

I would like some advice about fitting some USB outlets to charge mobile phones.

Here's a pic of the inside of my 1999, Mini Cooper 1275 (Japanese import)

Does anyone know of any example USB outlets that can be fitted, ideally in the blank to the left of the fog light switch?

If there are better places to fit the outlets, then I'd be keen to know that instead.

Thanks in advance.

Richard.

If you can find one the right diameter there won't be much behind it. Although the hole will need opening up as I think it has a flat edge ... to stop what was there on other cars (heater?) turning.

Something like this?

https://www.ebay.co....=item41eaf959a3

I have the twin USB and cigarette lighter (perfect for satnav or dashcam)
We made a plate and fitted it between the steering column and auxiliary switch panel mounted under the dash rail.
If I remember tomorrow I will get a picture of it mounted in place on the car.

Hi,

Yes, exactly like those.

A photo would be really good thanks, it will help me to know what to do.

Thanks,

Richard

I seem to remember that removing that blank isn’t as straight forwards as you might expect - I think it holds the switch panel to the left hand mounting bracket.

It does, there's a dog leg bracket to a captive screw.

Same location as this visible screw head on a Mk1. I suppose you could make up a new bracket, but there must be a better location to have cables hanging loose. How about in the glove box or repurposing the ashtray with a phone holder?

I wouldn't bother with the socket in the dash, I'd fit the USB point near the fuse box hidden away up the back or wherever then put a short USB extension lead into that and have the end loose in the glove box.

They're not reversed, choke or blanking plug on the left, heater on the right regardless ?

Hi,

Thanks for all your replies.

I've chosen to get the below and fit it between the heater and steering wheel:

https://www.ebay.co....aCgVl:rk:5:pf:0

I know I will need to open one of the holes up to be big enough for the dual USB outlets.
