Can anyone confirm whether paint code RCQ uses COF (BVLC818 Flame Red) or CPQ (BVLC1000 Flame Red)?

There seems to be some conflicting information and certainly my car has had some bodywork done with badly matching paint which could be explained by discrepancies in the paint code.

According to my paint software the combination is 818 and 1218.

This thread has me questioning whether the 818 is correct and whether it should be 1000: http://www.theminifo...cooper-classic/

Yes, BVLC1218 is correct for the roof.

RCQ is supposedly COF+Nal (Flame Red + Diamond White 2).

....Bit odd as so many sites show COF Flame Red was used on Mayfair's & City's (circa 1988-93) & that CPQ Flame Red was used on the SPI/MPI.

This thread seems to back up the idea that RCQ is really CPQ+NAL

My car's a '98 JDM Cooper at it would seem odd that the export car's would still have the older Flame Red. I think I'll get my paint man to do a small test area with both.

on my paint software

RCQ = Flame red multiple codes  COF / 818 / R73     Secondary colour White Diamond 1218/ LRC603  / 603

Usually this can mean that these colours are available under these codes, from other models for example Flame red mini may have the code COF, and rover 200's use the code 818,

its really just showing the colour under all codes listed

Incidentally my system shows three shades of flame red Standard, bluer, and darker.

Bluer shade on red's is often a good shade

just found this....

Go down to page 217A16        -COF/NAL is listed as RDV (& not RCQ)

So many sites, so much conflicting information, & it doesn't help that MG colours are completely different to Rover colours!

Edit:  -found an old thread & the 1989 Mini Flame (COF/NAL) has RDV on the Vin plate.

3 shades for Flame Red:

CMB Flame Red 1969-73

COE Flame Red 1988-95

COF Flame Red 1988-99

I came across a reference that there were 7 different shades of Tahiti Blue! -not sure if that's true.

Mine started out as Rover Tahiti Blue pearlescent before a spray job but it's now darker than that now -i'm not even sure that it's a Rover colour.

It looks much better than the standard blue :-), or at least it did before the rust faeries struck .

might be a bit off topic, but I was looking for the correct colour code on my mini too. On the plate insdie in the engine bay it said flame red, so I went to an auto paint shop and asked for a flame red paint and got a RAL 3000 paint can. I checked and it seemed a bit lighter than my body work. Maybe that what nick@dunsdale meant with different shades of flame red... oh well. From now on Ill just go to the shop and ask them to match :/
