Unfortunately I need to replace my stub axle, but I am having troubles removing it. I tried using a hub puller (not sure if that's the correct English word for it, link is down below), but the puller actually sheared because of the amount of force required. So I was wondering, what is the correct method to remove a stub axle? Leaving the radius arm on the car would be highly preferred.

Thanks in advance!

They press out from the threaded side, meaning, that's the side that needs to be 'pressed' against.

I've only ever done them off car and in a press as they need more force than you can get with that type of puller.

You can get hydraulic versions of those tools. I have one and its very good. Used it a few times.

Random Ebay link so you get the idea.

you need the arms off the car. you need a 10 tonne press to get the axle started and a constant pressure of about 6 tonnes to continue the press. if you for whatever reason want to put a nut back on at any time then make a sleeve to press on or you WILL damage the threads. i would also get new Square locating washers as getting the old ones out are next to impossible.

Damn, 10 tonnes to get the axle started. Guess I underestimated things a bit. Since removing will be mandatory, it seems I have no choice. Thanks for the replies everyone!
