So I did the ball joints today and on one side the axle slipped out of the hub on the wheel. I got it back in the splines on the hub but i noticed after it was back on it could still slide in and out a little bit. Is this normal? Or should it not move at all. The other side of the car i can't move the axle in or out at all.

Do you mean the universal joint slipped (the bit with splines on it)? This should not be a problem, as long as you torque up the hub nut properly.

There is a bit of give at the Differential end, which might account for your worry, which will disappear when everything is put back together properly.

I guess there is a faint possibility the circlip holding the U/J in position has unlocked itself. Before pursuing that, I think I would reassemble everything.

Good luck

I have the old style u joint drive shafts. the left side of the car by the wheel i can push and pull the driveshaft in and out a little bit. Not enough for it to pop out though.

Hi,

There's a spring clip that holds the driveshaft into the CV joint.

There's usually some in and out play in that end, as long as it's not coming out you should be fine.

Cheers  :proud:

mmm

I would be sorting it asap as if you hit a pothole there is a chance it will back out,

and maybe chew the end of the driveshaft and the splines in the CV joint
