Definitely Cibies. Drove some country lanes last night, *enthusiastically*. The light pattern is superb and bright

Make sure you run 2 relay circuits, one for dip and one for high beam

I highly recommend Cibie H180s with nightbreaker lamps / bulbs.

They’re better than my modern RAV4 and at least 10 times better than standard mini headlights. Forget quad optics too, the beam pattern is naff by comparison.

I was just searching on this subject as my current solution is to avoid driving at night....I my Chinese bicycle light is brighter than the mini's headlights.
Are there any LED conversion kits out there, that people have used?

Minispares now sell an "E" maked LED headlight. No picture yet on the website but I think its the new Wipac ones. Be interested to hear from anyone who has tried them.

He's obviously never been blinded by cheap, unregulated LED headlights (mind you, OE LED headlights are bad enough as well)

There is no need to spend that sort of money.
Just get a pair of Cibie headlight units and fit normal halogen bulbs. You can get up-rated bulbs 100/80 watt, but the wiring needs to be improved for these.
An alternative is a Hella headlight. This is what I run in my Cooper S rally car.

MiniSpares LED Headlamps at £420.00 a throw, I'm not surprised they have plenty of stock  You wouldn't want to be on a newly chipped road or have a a gritter going past you  !!!!!

I fitted HIDs to mine..... I will be changing back to H4s soon though, they are brighter but the light spread is terrible...

 

I will be going for Cibie's light units with Osram Nightbreakers.

 

And ..... no before anyone spouts off, HIDs aren't illegal/dangerous/you need self levellers or washers etc... you dont, those only need to work if fitted.... they dont need to be fitted if HIDs are fitted...

Hi

The 100/80 bulbs are not road legal. I've tried these high output bulbs and yes they give a higher light output but the standard headlamp reflector is not capable to focus the beam and you get a lot of light scatter resulting in disappointment and annoyed oncoming drivers.

Best to go for a higher quality unit with a good reflector design, correctly adjusted they give a decent light output.

I 2nd Cibie lenses and decent H2 bulbs....worked perfect for me over std sealed units. No need to mess with wiring...well for a later car (mines 1990).
