Hi chaps I’ve currently no spots or driving lights on my cooper but want to put them back on once purchased, I’m unsure in the configuration I.e driving lights and spots do the spots go on the outside and driving in side ? I’m having 4, also how do these wire up do the driving lamps come on with the headlamps and are they connected to the flashers, maybe a wiring diagram or wire colour identifier would help me, thanks guys appreciate it

Hi,

I read recently on here that the 2 inners are fogs, which would be switched by the front fog light switch and the outers are spots which would come on with the main beam. Memory withstanding!  O_O

Cheers  :proud:

Outers are fog, inners are main beam. Make sure you get the glass lenses correct too.

Yep outers fog, inners spots. If you're not using the original wiring, I would personally wire them such that the spots come on with main beam, but can be switched off on their own switch if required, and the fogs need sidelights (and turning on of front fog light switch) to operate. That way you could run with dipped beam off and fogs on if that was deemed to be advantageous.

I wired mine in through a couple of relays. The spots have a signal wire from the main beam and the fogs have a signal wire from the rear fog lamp switch, both sets are switched so they can be turned off if required.

Fogs are on the outside spots in the middle.

I’ve found some 5/12” chrome front driving lamps by wipac on eBay s6007 is the part number on them, can anyone tell me a part number for matching fog lamps ? Also is 5/12” the right size for cooper spec?

To be honest, the spot/fog lights as fitted as standard on the later cars were poor in terms of lighting improvement and were not good quality units. They don't increase the range of the lights much, if at all.

A better option can be to fit a pair of good auxiliary driving lights such as the Cibie Oscar which have longer range. For appearance, the old Lucas 7" 'Flamethrower' (SLR700) was superb when fitted with a halogen bulb, but they are expensive these days.
