Just bought a 1971 Austin Mini 850 with red interior. Planning to restore it to 100% original condition. Any photos or information greatly appreciated. Cheers.

Here it is! Going to start a full restoration soon, keeping it as original as possible, as it seems to be in pretty original condition as it is now. And no... I think I am a very long way away from you, I'm Christchurch, New Zealand! A long way from the UK! ????

Does look good, think we only had that style of seat and door cards in the clubman in the UK.
Only seen mk3's with black dash cards here too.

Interior does look like a clubman one.

But I love it! I'd be tempted not to restore it and keep its patina

Unfortunately in the UK there's not much info available on NZ Minis & much of it is confusing or contradictory so please forgive me for supplying any incorrect details....

Originally Austin minis were assembled from UK CKD kits by AMI (Associated Motor Industries) at Petone (they also assembled Australian CKD kits there from 1966), the Morris version was assembled by Dominion Motors at Panmure. Some sources claim separate Austin & Morris badged cars continued in NZ untill 1972, but yours has a 1970 on bonnet badge as per the UK cars.

In a CKD kit the main parts were shipped from the UK or Australia but things like seats were probably locally sourced - yours look very similar to Aussie seats but the door cards/door release are different.

It might be a good idea for you to join the Canterbury Mini Car Club http://cmcc.org.nz/wp/

As luck would have it it's only a few days till their Mini Nationals meeting.
