This seems a silly question to ask, but has anyone any advice about removing the thin chrome wheel nut covers on a mini, please? I tried to remove the wheels on my mini 30 but couldn't get the covers off the wheel nuts (the only one that I could loosen was the locking nut!). I tried prising them from the base with a screwdriver and pulling them using a rubber grip, but they wouldn't budge. Because they are so thin I guess that trying to grip them to pull them off would be counterproductive, so any advice gratefully received.

Best wishes

Mike

I don't think you're supposed to take them off, apart from the locking (round) one.
Otherwise they will be an odd socket size.

They are not meant to come off. Many do though as your average tyre shop uses the wrong socket size!
Get the correct socket and they will be fine :)

Incorrect sized, or 12 sided sockets tend to ruin them. Originals were AF I think. Later ones were metric.

I changed mine for these because they do away with the rubbish chrome bit. Use a 17mm 6 sided socket so as not to damage them.

Brilliant, thanks everyone. I did try a socket but the cover just turned on the nut so I will have to try something tighter - and then get the replacement nuts kindly suggested by Wiggy.

Best wishes
