Has anyone successfully fitted an additional engine stabiliser to the LH (thermostat) end of a Japanese spec car? I have a 1998 JDM Cooper and there seems to be a minefield of stabilisers that probably won't fit, probably because of the air-con plumbing.

I don't like Ultimate Engine Steadies. I think they're ugly and don't think they're that great. Have you considered the lower engine steadies that mount from the gearbox to the rear of the subframe? I have 2 on the Midas (along with the standard "! up, 1 down" arrangement) - and my engine does NOT move.

Yes I'd thought about fitting those as well, they're not so expensive and my thoughts are that in the long run they might help protect the driveshaft seals as well. Back in the 80's the crude way of stabilising the engine was to mount a couple of lengths of steel between the front outside cylinder head studs and the front panel, anchored to the front panel using exhaust bobbins! In retrospect and with a little more engineering care that comes with age it probably wasn't an ideal solution although it did work! The current variety of engine top stabilisers look much more engineered but finding one that I know will work with all the extra stuff under the bonnet of a JDM model is proving difficult.

The moss one is good. It looks stock and you can barely see it. Not sure about air con pipes though. Fits on the water pump.

DSN do a spacer to allow their normal 1275 one to fit the SPI ask them if they have had one on a JDM mini.

Thanks, I will. I've been working with Dave on another part for the interior so need to give him a call anyway.

I've got it on my mini. Been on there since 2009. 120horses. Had no problems.
