Hi;

Once again today whilst trying to fix a non running engine (electrics) I needed to refer to the wiring diagram in the Haynes Manual, however I have never been able to find the exact match for my Mini.

It is a 1982 HLE 1000 and the nearest diagram is the Mini 1000 Special but it's not quite the same. When referring to the Ignition Coil, mine has two wires coming of the Negative (both Black / White) and two wires coming off of the positive (White / Yellow and White / Pink).

One Black / White connects to the Distributor (Points / Condensor) and the Pink / White goes to the top fuse in the fuse box.

That's not to say that these are correct but they look factory standard.

Any idea which diagram I should be referring to?

Try looking here http://www.theminifo...agrams-redrawn/ there is a good variety to see if any match what you have.

They sound correct - the pink is a special resistive wire for the ballast ignition coil.
The other black/white will go to the Rev counter (if you have one, otherwise it will be taped up behind the speedo)
The white/yellow will go to a terminal on the starter solenoid to provide the cranking bypass feed to the coil.

But there does not seem to be a matching wiring diagram to suit this?

Well this one has the right wires in, but does say it’s from ‘84:

Yes I did see that one, it seems the 1982 HLE's fall at a bit of a funny time either that or a lot of the dating for changes is slightly out for this year and model.
