I was lucky enough to get both the front and rear original license plates from across the pond with my mini (even has the reggy printed on all the windows!), and well the rear is still in great condition the front is uhh... rough to say the least.. Anyone know where I could get some replacement numbers for the plate? They appear to just be plastic numbers with pins and crimp washers on the back of the plate.

I don't know of anywhere that makes that type of number plate now. Perhaps someone else does.

I would think the nearest looking would be the embossed type where the characters are punched into the metal or the resin gel type that has raised characters.

My own preference is perspex or acrylic where the backing and characters are laminated to a piece of clear acrylic. So you just have a smooth suface to keep clean.

Ideally, you'll also need some matching coloured fasteners, to match the colour of the background. These are just plastic screws and nuts but you could just use self tappers or additionally some double sided tape to fix the back number plate to the boot if you don't want to drill it.

no one can legally make plates like that from new. all new plates have to be of the current version. so you will be looking to cannibalize any other old plates that you can find.

Try these people, they make the 70’s style number plate which is with the raised plastic letters..

I’m not sure if they do oversea shipping but it’s another source to try.

Dang I was hoping this would be a easy one. I'll shoot tippers an email and see if they can source me the letters. If not I can probably replicate them in CAD and 3d print the lettering. Just going to be tough to match the finish.

If you do want to refurbish your plates the reflective material is widely available (but buy the best quality you can). New Old Stock BSAU145a number plates do come up on eBay sometimes, & the numbers are readily available (it's a question of whether sellers will post to Canada).

https://www.ebay.co....g4AAOSwovBbe8Ho

(bit pricey & seems he doesn't post abroad).

I rebuilt mine then used a good adhesive sealant to fit a (cut & shaped) modern plastic plate inside the aluminium plate- hopefully it will help to protect it in future.

Tippers are great, They definitely sell the letter separately as I bought so a couple of weeks back, it's just a case of wether they will send oversea's.

Alternative to tippers is Polar Automotive  - her's a link to them

https://www.classicplatesonline.co.uk

They do all classic styles from 50"s to 70"s... I have bought a few sets for my cars from different eras and happy with quality and price of all 3 sets sand the 3 different styles

If you take one of your letters or numbers off you will probably find the makers name inside that should make getting the correct replacements much easier.

Couldn't help but notice the "Colliers of Birmingham" sticker. A dealership still going and the same dealership we purchased our Mini 35 from in November 1994.

My parents still live opposite them!

I found plastic numbers/letters on Ebay and used blank plates from a trailer parts supplier - I had to remove the reflective film for my black & white plates.
