Cheers Ben - let's see what the blaster uncovers. I'm sure it'll be fine
It looks pretty good.
I'm expecting there to be quite a bit of filler in the quarter panels so it will be good to get that out and straightened out.

The sandblaster called today to let me know that he will be dropping off the subframes and panels on Monday. The shell will follow during the week.

Martin popped by at lunchtime to drop off the panels, subframes, fuel tank and box of small parts.
Overall everything is good however he removed a lot of filler from the doors, tailboard and bonnet which has revealed the damage that the filler was covering.
The doors are pretty straight however the tailboard is quite poor and the bonnet is terrible.
The good news is that there is little to no rust on the panels.
The subframes have come up very well indeed, as has the tank.
He told me that the shell is coming up well but again there was lots of filler in the quarter panels which wasn't a surprise to me so all good. The repairs that the filler was covering are a good standard he tells me so that sounds fine.
I guess we will see next week once he has finished it.
Cheers

I think that's better than I thought it was going to be
i knew the tailboard was a bit dodgy but didn't realise the bonnet was so bad - is it salvageable ? .better news on the rest of it though...
the big question is how are you going to get the sand out of the tailboard ?

The bonnet is salvageable because it is clean but I would expect the labour to fix it would be more than another bonnet. Ill have a poke and a prod and get back to you regarding options going forward. It's hard to show how bad it is in the photos.
The doors have previously had skins and i'm not over the moon with the finish on the welds and folds but I can do something with that
Ill probably clear the tailboard by taping up all but 2 holes. high pressure Air blower in one, high powered vacuum cleaner over the other. Usually does the trick although I may end up removing the damaged section at the bottom of the skin as it's very stretched. I can drain the sand out before letting a new section in.

yep - photos don't really show the damage much, but 'terrible' is a pretty descriptive word !!

Well I have got the shell back now.
Overall, it's as good as we thought it would be however the previous repairs to the side panels are pretty poor and unfortunately, the heat generated from the welding has distorted the panels very badly so they will need sorting out.
Ill leave the photos for now and ill sort out about getting it on the spit.

Martin said it took hours to get the filler out there was so much!
The roof does need work but it's not crispy croutons so that's good. I wonder if it had a light bar at some stage as there is a hole right in the centre of the roof that had been welded up.

Ok, so the car is now on the spit
A quick look underneath reveals some repairs required to the underside of the load floor but on the whole it's pretty good. Most of it is just ugly old repairs that need redoing or tidying up
The ends of the toe board need work too
The cab floor is bad but that's going to be replaced entirely so nothing to worry about
Next, the new panels will be ordered and then the cutting can commence
Cheers
