Right back to the pick-up after a short break whilst trying to arrange a new colour for it.
The decision has now been made and now the PUP will be painted ROV706 Rover dark grey.
Before I can start painting it, I needed to tie up a few loose ends.
First up, I fitted the metal plugs into the floor pans
And then into the booth for a wipe down and mask up
And as the sills are only being top coated, they were masked off too.
The owner of this truck has requested that I use Upol Raptor as an underbody coating so that's what I got
I have not used this before so I had a read over the instructions. It's a two part PU coating and the instructions simply say 'fill, shake, shoot'
All you do is measure out the activator in the provided measuring cup, add it to the bottle of coating and then shake for 2 mins.
After prepping 2 bottles, I applied it
That was 1 light coat...
After it had cured, I applied the first of the topcoat.
Tomorrow, I shall top coat inside the cab and then it can come off the spit to allow me to finish painting the rest of the shell.
Cheers

Looking good
Are you aware you can also get tintable raptor it would eliminate the extra visit to apply colour
I just did a the underside of a series 2 Landrover with the tintable version

I did look at the tintable Raptor but was concerned that there might be a slight variation in colour match if I went that route and not having used it before, didn't want to chance it.

It's now off the spit for the final time
And then back into the spray booth to have the engine bay painted
I mixed up a tad too much paint and didn't want to waste it so wiped down the bonnet and painted the inside of that too
Later on once that had all cured, I prepped and masked the load bed floor
And then on with the Raptor
It seems that the Raptor should be very hard wearing. It is nothing like regular stoneguard and actually once cured, feels like one of those textured load liners that you see in modern pick ups
And then of course, the load bed was painted
Again, I had a little bit too much paint leftover to waste but just enough to paint a bonnet
And that brings us up to date.
I plan to paint the outside of the shell early next week.
Cheers

..running out of superlatives here Ben
load bed looks fantastic; I was considering raptor on the side panels and bulkhead as well as the load floor, but glad I didn't now. and the finish on the bonnet - i take it that's straight out of the gun !?!?

Cheers Pat.
I did actually think about Raptor on the side panels and bulkhead myself when I was masking it up but I then thought it would probably look a bit silly and I too am glad that just the floor was done. It looks just right IMO.
And yes, the bonnet paint is straight out of the gun. The photo was taken about 5 minutes after i put the last coat on. I moved it against the wall because I didn't want it too close to the heater vents in the booth.
