Hi!

I've been looking to buy a set of Hi-Los and shocks for the Mini, but I've reached an impasse... Standard height or lowered?

I don't plan on having the Mini slammed to the ground, I'm hopping to have a two, to three finger gap between the top of the tyre and the body (I'm runnig 165/70 R10 Yokos), so what shocks do should I get?

Also, I was thinking of getting GAZ shocks. Are they any good?

Thanks in advance!

NunoTT

Two to three fingers normal shocks are fine. Gaz are ok, but, even on the lowest setting they are harder than the standard shocks. Have them on mine and I have zero setting on the rear and 6 clicks on the front.

I have minitastic fast road springs, so fitted GAZ lowered dampers. They help stop the springs unseating if I ever go airborne!!

We like the GAZ and have them set about 3 clicks on the back and 4 on the front. They’re great with the springs.

Fit rubber cones, not springs if using the car on the road.

For dampers use Protech as they'll be softer than Gaz

Thank you SOOOO much! I have no idea how much time I spent looking for something like that

With rubber cones I don't have the problem of them unseating right?

I will use rubber cones. I'll most likely use the MiniSpared "Red Dot"

Minispares red spot are the cones I'd recommend. You are correct that the springs can cause the trumpet to part company with the spring

Another one here giving the thumbs up for Minispares Red spot cones and Protech Dampers.

I pulled the springs off mine and am very very glad I did.  It's like a whole new car and that's an understatement!!!  The fact that you can have springs unseating tells you something as well!  You'll also need a lot more damping for springs too.  The rubber cones have a natural damping ability hence the need for softer shocks.

Just out of curiosity, what settings are you using on your dampers?  I don't think I'm far off on mine after switching back to rubber cones but would be nice to compare / try someone else's settings.

P.S. I hope your feeling better and are on the mend fella!

I've just recently fitted Protech standard height dampers, as the previous Spax ones were shot.

Standard rubber cones & trumpets too.

Got the Protechs on the softest setting at the moment but going to gradually click them up until I'm happy.

I believe Minis are near enough to the ground without further lowering-unless you really want to increase your risk of damage, but I am just an old fogey!

Its your car, do what you want-that's what minis are all about isn't it? Good luck, whichever route you go down.
