Next up, weld the o/s front corner repair down 2 sides.
Couldn't get the grinder in to tidy up, I'll get the belt sander on that later.

Rear valance off next:

This repair was glued on with mastic!

87cm - ish - from heelboard to inner valance:

Then on to something that's been bothering me for a while. The floor step wasn't square with the roof, and that was before I started cutting.
Here the car is upside down. Yellow spirit level across the window frame, small one across middle of frame:

Doorstep now parallel with window frame and floor:

...and temporarily fastened into place:

Tidy up the spot welds:

And now to offer up the repair. The repair is folded square-cut, like a stair case, but the original is slightly curved in this area. So I clamped the profile together and then clamped and tech-screwed the repair edge to the existing. This way, when I weld it together I should get the profile right. I hope.

Need to clean up the whole area and grind away the remains of the old valance. Then I'll clamp and screw it back together, and alternately use the grinder and 1mm cutting disc to slot and then weld as I go along.
Initial fit looks spot on for the corner repairs I did last week.

A bit more work on this area over the weekend.
My phone had an 'episode' and I lost a load of pics.
But, as a strategy, the rear door step as described earlier wasn't a bad one but I cocked up the draw-bolt hole.
I removed the rear load bay support cross-members along with the side bits.
Offered up some new bits and clamped them together, not looking too bad.
Car right way up again:

I won't tidy this up much, both sides are completely hidden from view.

Realised I wouldn't be able to refit the load support because of all the bracing, so moved on to the other rear corner. With that out the way I can feed the repaired load support through.

Took ages to do this but I'm happy that it's the best I could have done with what I have available.

I also chopped out some more of the boot floor and welded the wheelarches fully.

Sick of the sight of the boot area now, so I bit the bullet, re-attached the load cross-member to the screw-holes and brackets made earlier, re-measured, clamped and welded the sod in, plug-welded from underneath.

Used one of these to strip off the rest of the grot:

Quite effective things, but they're not cheap and they're easy to destroy if you catch them on an edge.

more good progress. that must the rear-end underside pretty much done now ?
the 3M roloc stuff is pretty good for surface prep too. the only downside is they're designed primarily for use with rotary air tools

Not far now. I've two little pieces to make up that attach to the wheel arch - pocket closing panels each side, a rust repair to the wheel well bung, the rear valance panels, and the subframe crossmember.
That's probably another weekend's work I reckon.
After that I want to get to the interior boot floor, clean it all up, and refit the front load support crossmember.

Grabbed a couple of hours earlier, finished the patch sections at last:

Think I'll still have to cut a band out of the wheel well though and replace with new steel, where the subframe cross member attaches to it, looking very pitted.
