Hi all,

 

I've recent bought one of these engine lift brakets for an engine change (remote box). Aplogies for "borrowing" the photo from ebay but I am wondering if anyone can give me a clue how to use this and what the two different positions on the bracket are for and which one to use.

You'll probably need the lower lifting position as this will tip the engine back slightly and help with clearance on the remote diff housing. The top position will give a more upright lift, probably more use for midgets and minor 1000's.

That makes sense - thank you.  I was wondering what the upper position was for.  Did not think about Minors!

As above it does help when lifting the engine in and out..

 

If you jack the back of the car up about a foot too it will clear the bulkhead perfectly

In the Instructions for original BMC version, they say that lift bracket, while different in appears, I think works a similar way, that it is for transverse engines. The front (lower) position is of course to get an engine tilt for fitting the engine, but the rear 'central' position is for lifting the engine (square) to line up the Drive Shafts;-

 

 

 

They do also say it can be used on in line engines, however, I think in some cars, these too need to be tilted, but not in a way this bracket can sensibly accommodate.
