god that looks rough. where are the big O rings?  or did they just put some RTV between manifold and carb?

I just quickly mated it to the manifold, no gasket used, and only in place with a single bolt - purely for getting the pictures taken with the manifold.

Others: HIF44 is not an option, I have the three options stated in the original post.

..I think I'll got for the double HS4 setup, but I have to try the weber to see how it fares now that you all seem to hate webers ;)

I for one love webers but as most have advised above they are not really needed on a road car.

Its not as simple as just trying a weber.

The chokes, auxilliary venturi, emulsion tubes and jetting could be for anything from an Hillman imp to an RS2000.

Its guaranteed that it will not suit your engine and as I said above that carb may well need £150 spending before fitting.

After its fitted with the best estimated chokes and jetting it then needs a rolling road session asap to make sure the fueling is not doing any damage, and then optimising, which takes time....otherwise you are wasting your time and money, and will no doubt be disappointed.

Weber carbs are a fantastic instrument they are very precise with endless combinations chokes/venturi/jets/air correctors but when set up correctly take some beating but generally below 5000 revs a HIF44 will win on both BHP and Torque.

If you send the carb to me I can strip it and see how its jetted and see if its anywhere in the ballpark for your setup.

I will do that for nothing, PM me.

Andrew could you do me a favour and measure the vertical distance from the round boss to the underside of the mounting flange on the IDA inlet.

Looks short! will measure mine in a bit.

The 40 DCOE 24 was fitted as OE to an Alfa  Giulia 1600 Super, but has been rejetted since.

I would go slightly bigger on the chokes to 33 or even 34mm (but the 32mm you have would be OK)

4.5 aux venturi is fine

50-F2 idles     F8 are too rich

F16 emulsion  is fine

150 main jet     130 is too small

170 Air correctors

Acc pump jet 45 or 50

With a good clean and jetted as above you should be in the ball park...it then needs a rolling road session the set it up properly.

It does look a bit 'compact' maybe just the angle...the one in the photo is the last one from a batch of Peirce ones I had and measures 34.7 from the 'servo' boss to the carb face.

I have measured my Derrington one and that is about 2 mm more...but that could be down to the thickness in the boss area.

They are very similar castings the Peirce one has 2 feet under the runners at the carb end so they stand up on a flat surface.... useful for standing it on the telly or VCR, which I did for about 3 months when I first got one...

I thought it looked fantastic, a piece of Italian art...a polished Derrington manifold with a 46IDA. The Mrs didn't like it half as much hahaha

The Derrington ones have it cast on top of the head face flange and 46 IDA across the the other.

The Peirce type just have 46 IDA on one.
