Oil leak, cant see where its coming from its pissing out.
its on the sump, possibly coming from the pot joint seal, its been replaced but has been on axel stands for a couple of months?
Can’t see it from the top. 
Up onto the ramps 

 

I think I’ve found the culprit, the cam in the mechanical fuel pump has blown a hole in the bottom of the fuel pump

removed and cleaned up all the oil. 

 

What fuel pump to replace with?  Why does the full range of the pump cause it to destroy itself?

I’m back.  I’ve driven it…….

Interior in, carpets, seats, window winder, removed when runner came off?

bent driver regulator, replaced

chipped paint with window glass.

Door cards and furniture in 

 

Door handle on passenger side needed some / a lot of fettling

had to grind handle and the door.

Skin too far over the door frame?

Had to elongate the holes in door skin

Happy with the progress, just need to sort out why hazard inline fuse keeps blowing.  

 

Started with some research 

 

not a lot on that circuit. Hazards and Interior lights

 

worked way through the circuit, checked hazard switch 

 

Cleaned all ok.   Checked voltage on all point of switch all good.

disconnected stalks 

Jumped power at connector, voltage disappears on RH indicators?  

 

Stripped out new flashed units, stripped out brake fluid switch, removed usb power.   Put old flasher in.  Nothing…. Cried….

Left garage for weeks…

 

No interior light fitted, hmmm 

no cables, behind head lining….  Possibly earth on body 

 

Fitted light, comes on, all appears good with hazards.

turn off light, fuse blows.

Left garage for weeks……

 

strip out door switches for interior light, swap cables around in interior light, this should make no difference.

Interir light works, put door switches back in, interior light turns on an off.  

Add new flasher units with earth back in, 

 

Yes all working 

 

Wire brake fluid switch back in, re taped loom.  

 

All still working.  

 

Changed the voltage stabiliser on clocks, fixed wobbly bulb.  

All working, happy days.  

 

Went out for a spin.   All working, push hazard switch into mounting,  No indicators. Assuming wire disconnected. 

 

Put front bumper on 

 

Now just need to work out why it runs so rubbish.   Seems to be rich, bit smoky but it runs, stops

Off back to the Isle of WIight.  Couple of fixes to paint work required

Well, that looks fantastic, won't be long, should be on the road for the summer.

Back from the Isle of Wight, Ben has done a fantastic job of fixing the issues and filling in the chips on the door.

Refitted the windows, hadn't spaced out the runner on bottom of the window, dropped off the runner when down!!

 

Got some lubrication spray to ease the movement of the window. 

Fitted the new weather strips.  Drivers was too long needed a little work to cut and shape.
The passengers is far too short, not sure if I should be sending it back, removal is going to remove paint. 

Can't slide it forward or will get a gap at the other end 


Just a bit of carpet to stick in place and the interior and exterior will be finished. 

Not sure of the age of the tyres, 5 years to get this far in my ownership and I think car was sat in garage for 4 years before.  
Bought 5 new ones, nothing wide or fancy. 

Car back on stands to prep wheels for new tyres, going to go with Silver, will only be a thin band visible once the Hub caps are on. 
Wire wheel first, front and back 

Then attack with P320 and green pad 

Then into etch and primer 

Tyres off the rims next and into paint.


Need to work out why the engine gets hot quickly and whats causing it to bog down.

Every time I come on here, which isn’t too often, I see your clubman quite high up in the list of projects, every time I read it from the beginning, it’s only when I reach the point of the angle grinder guard modification bit that I realise I am actually recapping.

Anyway I did the same thing this morning from the beginning, I’m always well impressed by the cobbled together “mini” out of the panels you’ve removed. It highlights just how far you’ve come, and just how much I still have to go with my own project!

You’re so close to that first drive now, they always say the last 10% consumes 90% of the time regardless of what project you’re working on. So keep plugging away and I’m sure you will have tens of thousands of fantastic miles to enjoy over a number of years with this car and the slog of welding it all back together will be long forgotten.

Furthermore, fair play for logging your work so well with excellent documentation and photos. When others come to work on their own projects this will be incredibly helpful.

Tyres removed at local fitters £20 and I had to take the tyres away!!
Sanded back edge of the rims, primed and painted.     Back of wheels painted black 

Front painted in Silver. 

Popped back to the same local tyre place Saturday just before close, Tyres on, Valves and balanced for £20, that felt like a bargain. 
Not sure if £10 a wheel is good value for fitting but the jobs done

On to the car 

Looks good 

Need to find the wheel nuts that hold the wheel and hubcap in place.  Will need to have a slight lip turned in it, to prevent wear to the hub cap 

Also fitted the ducting from the main inlet scoop into the car, whilst the wheel was off.

Then got distracted working on youngest Vespa.   

Looking at the last picture, I wonder if I need longer wheel studs, no threads exposed

If you made it this far, its been just over 6 years since I started.
Just a bit of carpet to stick onto inner sill  and cowl on steering wheel and its done

 

 

Except for the engine that is very lumpy, bogs down when driving without choke.  

This is the year to drive it……..

Those last few bits….

Put the rest of the interior in, Cowl on, carpets out, adjusted, back in, fitted the carpet holding clips.

Painted the ash tray for dashboard, looks good.

dug out the dash lining and cleaned, cant find the small piece for the off side.

 

Been out for a blast around town,  runs rough.

spark plugs black, timing in good, tick over not smooth.  
Tweak of mixture, better but not great.

 

Bought AEM Air fuel gauge. 

Hours of exhaust pipe removal, boss welded on 

cabled in, added extra earth and switched 12v for gauge, usb and spare.

 

adjusted the mix, tick over at 1000 is not smooth.  Won’t hold a constant 14 on idle, its a bit Smokey 

Plugs much better colour, runs better 

 

Fitted bottom engine steady, the clunk on deceleration has gone.

Sad times. 

Bonnet blew open, didn’t quite cry but close

 

if there is a bright side, happened on road right behind house, climbed the fence to get spanner to remove bonnet, then passed it over fence before driving back round the corner.

 

Scuttle ripped and dented both ends, hinges toast. 

 

 

 

New hinges ordered and painted 

 

Spend many hours pulling and pushing the dents out. Will have another go this weekend see if I can get a bit more out but its going to need skim of filler and paint 

 

 

Lost more paint, no longer adhered to the metal

 

 

Will need couple of spots of weld on the rips, sand down the paint.
going to leave filling and paint to body shop.

 

looking to see if I can find one local to me in South Wales, might end up on the Isle of Wight with a stop off at AC on way back but it is a long way

What happened with the front catch to let that happen?

I had to add a flat plate into the safety catch hole to make it smaller or the safety won’t catch.  
If you yank the bonnet when it on the safety it will slide open. Which I now know

 

the safety won”t rotate to engage into the slam panel hole.  
 

Will have to make another catch panel for the safety with a lip folded into it.
