It’s dense with underlay. Will get the name tomorrow. How much do you need?

Just thinking ahead next year to improve what I have. I remembered it looks similar to what was in my new 80 gt it would go on my 75 gt bulkhead.

Wow its been a long time.  I have been in the garage a couple of times to fit front subframe.

5TxjwUY.jpg

Where are the bolts?  Mess around looking from them, buy new ones……

Paint tear drops again, thing time trip back to bare metal

g3A0X30.jpg

Forgot about the front sub, started on cleaning up door catches

fbnDzrf.jpg

pondered about drilling out the rivet, decided putting in a new one would be more of a ball ache than masking up

PUeD4IW.jpg

uMWosq0.jpg

Finished off fitting front sub, made spacers for sub to front panel

Thats about it

Now need to decided on fitting out doors and windows or wait until after paint issues rectified

Its a bit thin, went through when cleaning

This will clean up

ARpBVZs.jpg

stripped down both, wish I had ordered the service kit first, I would have left the temp sensor in place!

vuMfok9.jpg

Through the clean, etch, scotch brite, degrease, prime paint cycle

e1rgtCb.jpg

will finish off when the spares get here

Almost ready to start this

It’s been sat quietly in the corner of the garage for 4 years. Other than unleaded conversion not sure of any other work

Good progress, the gear stick housing is one of my jobs to do next. How long before you get the car back on the road?

Been away from garage for a bit, some aspects of the car not making me happy.

Having built the brake master, I had a nagging doubt that the top piston and spring may have separated when I assembled.

how to get it apart?

Spent time finding old fitting to block holes, then applied pressure with a foot pump.  Shot out, used some brake fluid to put it back together

dBfB4OP.jpg

BnAxSCm.jpg

Onto to the clutch master

HruIJjP.jpg

Oh no, where is the bag with the new rubbers???  Grrr. Tear garage apart, swear.  Move onto next item ….

put the gear change back together

HbY9Uif.jpg

Pleased with that, will get some heat shrink for the reverse switech.

Installation time

Not sure what to do with brake switch thing, they don’t make them any more.
I have the top and parts from the original, might see if I can turn one down.  The bolt kind of fits, not sure what the thread is.

Next week will be start of engine strip, might just end up being a clean and install.

Time to get driving

Isn't it lovely when you put shiny parts in a nice painted shell?  Looking good!

Just read through your whole thread here. I remember when you started this and it was just a few pages long. Won’t be too much longer now!

Tom I said the same thing this time last year when I dropped it off for paint. Trying not to think about all the little jobs.

Started This. Not going to do anything other than clean it, replace a few seals and gaskets.

jpd4oC2.jpg

Striped off all the ancillaries, all need a good clean or replacement

Big Minispares order in for bits and pieces, gaskets, seals, water pump, hoses etc.

Clutch housing and wok has gone for soda blasting along with radiator cowl, brackets, pulley, anything else that needs cleaning.

Degreased and covered with paint stripper, looks like the engine was originally gold.  Replacement engine?  Is it the right spec for a GT?   It’s a 1275 but how do you tell if its correct for a 76 GT?

LcVbAli.jpg

Hoped that jet wash would remove all the paint.   Oh the disappointment.

  VfLxxWZ.jpg

Out with the wire wheel. Most used item on this project

UO096Bf.jpg

ooHukKY.jpg

Then up onto the bench, can’t be sat on the floor.

hWHivTF.jpg

Then attacked with small wire brush in the drill before sand paper and lots more degreaser

Gave the bottom a good clean whilst in my head “no one will see it”

Ps3GJrD.jpg

more degreasing with panel wipe and lots of rags.

Etch primer on

FugdxvY.jpg

Satisfying afternoon and evenings work

on with the etch

More primer on the parts tonight

I really should update this more often.
I think I started the engine section with “Not going to do anything other than clean it, replace a few seals and gaskets”

Well…. I’ve been pretty good with that.
Not removed the head or gearbox.

Everything else has been stripped cleaned painted, or replaced.

Lots of small very time consuming jobs taken care of.

Will spend an hour or two next week with updates

Finish rebuild of Clutch Cylinder

Little bit of wear

RrEalf1.jpg

Spare retrieved from the might need this box…

Service kit fitted then installed

tM0IX5y.jpg

Probably the best part of an afternoon lost on that little job.

Stripped of the lower pulley, 2 man job to hold crank still, engine steady on bench.   Once the nut was undone the pulley came off with ease.   I did think the pulley movement was excessive end float it moved so easily.

My friend Tim went home to find me a lower pulley, returned with a box of them….  Mini ownership is really about collecting parts you might need.

Looks tidy

8bTGbFO.jpg

Then strip, clean, paint

67Mu9LV.jpg

I then decided that it would be best to run some cleaner through the block, it was pretty grim in there.
Put the old water pump back on, fitted hoses, filled the system through heater valve then ran water pump with a drill with a bucket replacing the pipes.     Didn’t get the flow I was expecting?
Then just filled and emptied the system a couple of times.
finally ran out clean.   Another 3 or 4 hours of time lost in the garage .
