As it says above, having issues with car starting, broke down yesterday i have a 93 mayfair 1275 hif 38.

Ive checked through the electronic ignition as it says in haynes i also checked for spark at plugs all seem good.

plugs 2 and 4 seem quite sooted. 1 and 4 looked good.

i checked for fuel by pulling hose of cranking engine..all good there so i thought i would check my carb

i have taken the dashpot off... and the carb looks quie dirty is this normal?

to seperate the dashpot from the "bell" you endo the plastic cap in the top and fully depress the piston. then a clip can be removed from the metal bit that comes out through the place you undid the cap. when this clip is removed you can seperate the two. but I doubt you will find the source of your problems inside the dashpot.

Might be time for a bit of replacement HT

When was the last time the cap and rotor arm and leads were changed, additionally the plugs and air filter.

All basics which can get overlooked.        It only takes a 10% reduction in one or more of said items and you will struggle

Caps can develop cracks which are not visible and the spark goes haywire, additionally, rotor arms and leads break down and lose their spark efficiency
