Well think its time for another update, managed to get the past 3 weeks off work (which never happens usually) to work on the woody and do other stuff.
So bit the bullet and started working on the bit of the project i have been dreading
Firstly as you may know the spare wheel holder was like a colander, so managed to buy a clubman estate from heathrow area and travelled the 6 HR round trip to get it, cut the spare wheel panel out of that. And sold it for a profit The guy was using it for a donor as well so worked good!
so went from this:
to this:
As you can see the panel also needs work but not as much as the woody one!
Then after carefully measuring, it was cut out
Then the new was welded in, and a piece or two cut out!
Smoothed up
Then DA sanded and hand sanded
Im also going to have to decide whether to just drill a drain hole, or put a recess in the panel with the drain hole. It seems like the original idea with the recess holds water, even if the drain grommet is taken out!

My (nearly completed) project is a 1964 Morris Traveller as well. I have the car 20 years now and it's in its 3rd evolution. Now running a 1293 Cooper S with discs and so on. Hope to have on road soon.
Nice tidy job going on yours.
