Hi Guys,

I went to undo the front sub-frame tower bolts the other day, but the socket I have is too large in diameter and wont fit between the strengthening rib (bottom of the photo) and the bolt head!

Has anyone else found this problem, or is there something wrong with my shell / sub-frame?

The socket's outside diameter is 46mm, and I can turn this down in the lathe, but just wondered if anyone else had had this problem?

Cheers!

same on both sides and what size socket you using should be imperial not metric as minis are af/imperial (af = across flats),if ya bought metric there the wrong size but some are similar like 13mm is not 1/2" it 12.7mm but probly will work , hank god where getting out of euroland with all this **** .....

1" = 25.4mm

so a 1"5/16 =33.33.75mm not 34mm cheers Mr guess-works for the socket size

Defiantly using 1 5/16" AF! I'm not a bodger!  :D

I cant get the hex of the socket to fit the hex of the bolt as the outside diameter of the socket is too big and it sits against the 45 deg body stiffener, so the center line of the bolt  and the center line of the socket are off set to each other!

Sounds like you are using an Impact Socket.

Might need to try a standard type socket.

Try using the correct grammar if you love England so much. It's dreadful.
