They may have used the Allegro (?) style block with the horizontal oil filter screwed directly on.
10" or 12" GKNs?

The SA GTS was very similar to the Australian GT in terms of style. They used the same arches (which had lip extensions on the shell) and very similar striping. The earlier cars had 10" Rostyles, while the later cars had 12" steel wheels with plastic hubcaps. The engine was based on the Marina block with the big oil filter in an upright position.
Pretty keen to see how this turns out - following.

I stripped a bit more out this afternoon. I basically need to get it to a rolling shell at this stage and then it will be fully stripped once work officially begins.
I removed the interior first
I then stripped out the doors and removed the glass
I removed the top dash rail too in the search for rust
I have never seen the inside of a dash rail look this mint.
So far in my search for rust, I have found pretty much none and what there is is so minor it's hard to notice.
After this initial inspection, I have concluded that it's had some paint work done in the past. It's been done to a high standard and you have to look hard to see it, the passenger side door doesn't fit very well with a tight gap up front and a wide one at the back. The door sits a bit too high as the window frame rubs on the top of the A post.
It's having a new roof to delete the sunroof, will need a rear parcel shelf and a repair to the bonnet.
Pretty good for a 38 year old car!

Having seen your previous work i've no doubt this will end up one of the best GT's on the road....
so i'm a little confused why the owner has decided to make it into a mock SA GTS especially as it won't even be the right colour.

I think someone will regret the modification one day but it's not my car and the customer is always right, lol.

He had a few ideas for colours but decided on bronze yellow.
It may not be an original GTS colour but it's his choice.

Hi Ben, Looks like a cool project. Do you know if he'll be making everything match correctly with an original early GTS? Twin HS2 carbs, 7.5" discs, mk2 taillights, early design grille and brake servo? Should be a cool project with some cool modifications. I love the early GTS with the 10" rostyles and the thick stripe on the car. They look really good.

I believe the only GTS items will be the arch trims and the stripes.

It really is. I have done a bit more stripping today and found some minor surface rust on the bottom edge of the front panel ans when I removed the sponge blocks from the top of the A posts behind the boxing plate, there were some flakes of rust on the sponge.
I too really like the Brown. I must do myself a brown Mini one day. very retro

A tad more stripping achieved today.
Sunroof and headlining out
I removed the heater and bulkhead sound deadening
And then the rear loom was removed and the back end stripped out
And then I started on the front by removing the brightwork and lamps
And then finished up by removing the main wiring loom
Cheers
Ben

Amazing how little top coat made it onto the inside of the roof and behind the instrument panel.
